Chinese premier arrives in Macau to attend the Ministerial conference

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrived in the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Monday for a three-day official visit.

Li will meet with Macau SAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On and be briefed by other Macau officials, according to Xinhua news agency.

The Premier will attend Tuesday the opening of the fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

In the opening ceremony Li will deliver a keynote speech and later will hold meetings with state leaders attending the conference.

Also present at the opening ceremony will be Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa, Cabo Verde Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva, Guinea Bissau Prime Minister Baciro Dja, Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, and government representatives from Brazil, Angola and Timor-Leste.

Representatives of São Tomé and Principe will attend the conference only as observers because the African country do not have relations with China and is not a member of the Macau Forum.

Speaking after arrival in Macau Li Keqiang said the Central Government will continue to support Macau´s role as “One Center, One Platform”, and promised to announce a series of support measures.

He also noted that one of the main tasks of his visit to Macau is to participate in the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and have meetings and talk with the various sectors of society “to show the world and Macau compatriots, the full support of the central government for the development of Macau as “One Center, One Platform” and will announce measures to promote, accelerate and diversify the local economy and maintain stability and prosperity in the long term Macau.”
