Macau’s population totalled 636,200 people at the end of 2014, an increase of 28,700 people or 4.7 percent over the number recorded in 2013, reported the Macau Statistics and Census Bureau.
At the end of the year 50.6 percent of the population was female and the population aged over 65 years (8.4 percent of the total population) increased by 0.4 percentage points year on year.
The population aged between 0 to 14 years (11.4 percent) increased slightly, by 0.1 percentage points, but the population aged between 15 and 64 years (80.2 percent) decreased by 0.5 percentage points.
The Statistics and Census Bureau also said that in late 2014 there were about 170,000 non-resident workers in the territory, which is an increase of 23.6 percent year on year.
Macau has an area of 31.3 square kilometres and a population density of 20,325 people per square kilometre. (macaunews/macauhub)
