The oil consortium exploring the Jaca well in Block 6 in São Tomé’s offshore zone has announced the drilling of the Jaca-1 well to collect rock and fluid samples, which will go for analysis.
Jaca-1 is the first exploratory well in São Tomé and Príncipe’s (STP) Exclusive Economic Zone. The consortium comprises the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) of São Tome and Príncipe (10 per cent); Galp (45 per cent, operator) and Shell STP (45 per cent) announced. The drilling reached 5,638 metres TVD (True Vertical Depth).
Jaca is located about 135 kilometres from the island of São Tomé and about 130 kilometres from Príncipe.
With the conclusion of the operation, the well was duly sealed, and the consortium will release information about the laboratory results when they are concluded and delivered to the operating companies and ANP-STP.
This first oil drilling started in April, with the Maersk Voyager drillship conducting the operation.
“The start of exploration drilling of the Jaca well marks an important stage because it will allow the collection of more precise information about our EEZ for the first time,” Luiz Gamboa, director of ANP-STP told Lusa News Agency.
