EHang Holdings’ unmanned VT-20 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) drone completed the first successful intercity cargo delivery in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) last week, travelling between Zhuhai and Guangzhou, according to a statement from the company.
The 83-kilometre trial flight took 55 minutes, shaving 40 minutes off the same journey by road – and even more off vehicle travel times in peak traffic. It was conducted on 30 July, during the 2025 Wanshan Archipelago Low-Altitude Integrated Application Conference, and was operated by Wanyi Tianxia (Zhuhai) Aviation Co.
The drone took off with a load of fresh seafood from Zhuhai’s UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) Logistics Operations Hub, at Tangjiagang Port, and landed at Guangzhou’s EHang Future City Suigang Port. It carried medical testing samples from Yunkang Da’an Laboratory on its return journey.

The VT-20 series has been operating for over a year in the Wanshan Archipelago, part of Zhuhai’s Xiangzhou District, and is central to a growing drone logistics network serving both land-to-island and inter-island routes.
Zhuhai Wanshan District Administrative Committee director Juan Li said the low-altitude economy was “emerging as a strategic focal point for the next wave of industrial development.”
According to EHang’s senior director, Wei Liu, the company and its collaborators were aiming for its latest initiatives to be “benchmarks of China’s low-altitude economy.”
