The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) said in a statement on Wednesday that about 3,200 vulnerable households will receive an extra subsidy to tide them over during the current COVID-19 crisis.

According to the statement, the extra subsidy will be paid from Thursday onward and cost the government about MOP 19.3 million (US$2.41 million). The amount of the subsidy depends on the number of members each household has. A one-member household will, for example, receive a subsidy of 4,350 patacas, while a four-member household will get 13,490 patacas. A household comprising eight or more members will receive 20,270 patacas, the highest amount possible.

Recipients of regular financial assistance by the bureau will benefit from the extra subsidy, the statement pointed out.
