Macao Water Executive Director Nacky Kuan Sio Peng said she expected that the construction of the Seac Pai Van water treatment plan in Coloane to get off the ground within this year, adding that the facility was slated to be operational in 2019.

The company said early last year that it aimed to start construction of the plant b the end of this year.

The Seac Pai Van water treatment plant will be located at the Seac Pai Van Reservoir, opposite the Seac Pai Van public housing estate at the corner of Estrada do Istmo in Cotai.

The utility currently has three water treatment plants – one at Macao Water’s headquarters, one at the main storage reservoir opposite the Outer  Harbour Ferry Terminal and one on the Coloane Hill.

Kuan said the company hoped that it could soon finalise the plans for the Seac Pai Van water treatment plant. Pointing out that the project is one of her company’s mist important tasks this year, the Director said the project  would cost almost one billion patacas which she said is a very big investment.

The new plant would guarantee the stability of tap water supply in Coloane and Taipa and it would rise Macau’s water supply from the current 390,000 cubic meters to 520,000 cubic meters, which would be enough to meet the city’s demand for tap water for the next 10 to 15 years.

Kuan also added that she expected the city’s water consumption to grow three to four percent this year.
