At the Blissful Carrot we are totally against snack deprivation! We stand firmly behind the thought, that any guilty snack can be made not only healthier, but can actually contribute beneficially to your overall wellness!
One of the main desert offenders that gets benched during “diet season” is ice cream. We are here to tell you that there is no reason to torture yourself like this! It is an especially cruel omission during Macau’s relentless summer time.
The truth is, that anything you make yourself from whole ingredients is going to be intrinsically better for you.It will lack the preservatives and other additives that allow foods to maintain their shelf life. Ice cream is no exception. While ice cream started out as “cream ice” in the 1500’s in France and was made of mostly made of simple dairy products, it has now grown to include a lot of processed sugar, artificial flavors and colors and undesirable stabilisers. Not only that, but some of us are (gasp!) lactose intolerant!
If you haven’t heard of “Nice Cream” you have lived a life not yet fulfilled!
It is essentially the Holy Grail of dessert for vegans as it also contains no dairy, and for the health nuts in all of us, no refined sugar!
It is essentially a blend of frozen bananas with additions of your choice. We love to mix in some coconut cream to give it a smooth texture, arguably better than traditional ice cream. If you are not fond of the taste of bananas, don’t worry! We can tell you from experience that the banana taste is mild when frozen, like some vegan voodoo, bananas make a remarkably neutral base for your homemade Nice Cream!
To make Nice Cream all you need is a blender or food processor, several ripe bananas, a little coconut cream, and additions of your choice. We love to add natural peanut butter, berries, almonds, acai powder, or a little fruit juice.
Recipe for Nice Cream:
- 4-5 Ripe, Peeled, Frozen Bananas (Peel them beforehand and freeze until rock hard, 2-4 hours)
- 1 cup of Coconut Cream
- Put both in a blender/food processor, process until creamy smooth
- Add in vanilla bean paste, nuts, fruit juice, acai powder, peanut butter, cacao nibs, nutritional or any other whole ingredient that floats your boat!
