Macau is a good gateway to China for Russian airlines, Dmitriy Arkhipov, a vice-president of Royal Flight, a Russian charter airline based in Abakan, said on Tuesday.

Abakan, which has some 173,000 inhabitants, is the capital city of the Russian Federation’s Republic of Khakassia in the southwestern part of Siberia.

Speaking to The Macau Post Daily on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony for the airline’s Macau-Moscow route at the local airport, Arkhipov said that there were “a lot of” Russian people who like to travel to Macau, Hong Kong and the mainland, adding that he was very confident that the new route would have enough passengers, especially tourists from the mainland, to sustain its operation.

There will be at up to two flights between the city and the Russian capital per week, a Royal Flight spokeswoman told reporters at the airport.
