Portuguese Consul-General Vitor Sereno proposed to hold a ‘Month of Portugal’ in Macau in June, coinciding with Portugal’s national day on June 10.
Sereno made the proposal during a press conference at the consulate about a dozen events to celebrate Portugal’s national day next month. The diplomat, who is simultaneously accredited in Hong Kong, said he would convey the idea of holding the month-long activity to Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng for the government’s possible support.
According to the press conference, the ‘Month of Portugal’ will include a gig by Portugal’s alternative rock band “The Gift” at the Macau Cultural Centre on June 2 and an exhibition by Portuguese painter Maria da Graça Morais at Clube Militar, as well as a culinary and wine festival, ‘Indie Lisboa’ documentary film showings and a 50 per cent discount at the Portuguese Bookshop.
