No. 1 typhoon signal to be hoisted as 2 tropical cyclones approach

The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) will hoist the No.l typhoon signal this morning.

A tropical depression located to the south of Taiwan was moving westwards to the South China Sea and was 760 kilometres east of Macau at 8 p.m. yesterday.

According to the bureau’s website, based on the current trajectory the tropical depression would affect Macau’s weather in the middle of the week.

It also notes that typhoon Mangkhut which is near Guam will move westwards and intensity in the following days, which will “significantly affect” the South China coast this weekend.

The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau has hoisted typhoon signals four times this year, with Bebinca being the last in August and the only number 8 signal so far this typhoon season.
