The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam said last week that the new Grand Prix museum would open to the public in November 2018, on the 65th anniversary of the Macau Grand Prix.

The new museum will be housed at the Tourism Activities Centre building, in the Leal Senado Square, Macao’s city center and is expected to cost 300 million patacas (US$ 37.5 million).

The current museum was built 20 years ago and needs to be modernized and expanded. Tam also said that the new museum would exhibit race cars models, wax figures and have areas for culture and the arts.

The Secretary also revealed that a public tender would be issued by the end of the year for the construction of the new museum.

The museum pays tribute to the Grand Prix racers who contributed to the success of the Grand Prix, including Teddy Yip, Paul Du Toit, Dodjie Laurel and Ayrton Senna, amongst others.
