Part of a metal-framed structure in the ongoing reconstruction project of the corridor between Zhuhai’s Gongbei checkpoint and Macao’s Barrier Gate checkpoint collapsed near the Gongbei side on Saturday afternoon.
The authorities at the Gongbei checkpoint informed Macao police about the incident, which did not cause any injuries but travellers on their way from Gongbei to Macao were unable to walk across the border for 1 1/2 hours.
According to local media reports, the incident happened at around 5 pm on Saturday, after which travellers en route to Macao had to wait at the Gongbei side before immigration officers arranged for them to enter the Barrier Gate checkpoint through an alternative route at around 6:30 pm.
