The Macau Association for Stray Dogs and Animal Welfare (MASDAW) is making a renewed appeal for donations.

The organisation is currently providing shelter for 111 dogs but is seeking help to cover expenses, including a monthly rental of more than 42,000 patacas, veterinary care and some hundreds of kilograms of food for the animals each month.

MASDAW says it received more than $69,000 patacas in donations in June – the highest monthly sum raised in 2023.

However, donations have generally tailed off since the Covid-19 pandemic and according to a report in Macau Post Daily, the organisation is only able to cover its rent until next month.

“To be able to survive and to continue to save the lives under our care we will always need the support of animal lovers and institutions,” a post on its Facebook page said.

MASDAW was founded in 2014 to rescue and rehome stray and abandoned dogs in Macau. Information on how to donate can be found here.
