Macau’s Tourism Crisis Management Office (GGCT) said on Wednesday that “given the recent situation of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Germany, France, Spain and Japan” it “has issued a Level 2 Travel Alert to those destinations.”

In a statement, the office “alerts Macau residents who intend to travel to, or are already in those countries, to reconsider their current travel plans.

“It is suggested to avoid non-essential travel to those destinations.”

The office, which is attached to the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), said it would keep monitoring the latest developments of the COVID-19 situation.

If necessary, the statement pointed out, Macau resident can call the 24-Hour Tourism Hotline +853 2833 3000, or the Global Emergency Call Centre for Consular Protection and Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 24-hour hotline +86 10 12308 for assistance.

Macau has a three-level travel alert system. Level 1 urges residents to “exercise caution,” Level 2 urges to “reconsider non-essential travel, and Level 3 urges to “avoid travel.”

Apart from Germany, France, Spain and Japan, Level 2 currently also includes Italy, South Korea, Egypt and Turkey.
