Ferry sailings between Hong Kong and Macau will be reduced to just once every 30 minutes from today until Saturday, the Turbojet ferry operator said on Sunday.

Owned by Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited, the operator said on its website that the arrangement was based on “instruction by Macau authorities” because of security checks during the period.

President Xi Jinping is scheduled to be in Macau between Wednesday and Friday.

The operator in October reduced its sailings between Hong Kong’s Sheung Wan and Macau’s Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal to once every 20-30 minutes.

According to the Macau Post Daily, based on the new arrangement, sailings for the same route will run every 30 minutes.

At its peak, the ferry operator ran ferry services for the Macau-Hong Kong route every 15 minutes, and sometimes with extra sailings.
