Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario said on Tuesday that the government was planning to declare the invalidity of the land concession for a plot originally set aside for an ocean park project in Taipa.
Rosario made the remarks when replying to an oral interpellation by lawmaker-cum-unionist Ella Lei Cheng I during a plenary session of the legislature.
Lei criticised the government for its slow progress in declaring the invalidity of provisional land concessions for undeveloped plots. The government started to take up the matter in 2009.
The Land Law stipulates that provisional land concessions cannot be renewed upon their expiration if their leaseholders fail to finish developing the respective plots of land within a maximum concession period of 25 years.
Lei also said that the plot that was originally designated for an ocean park project off the northern coast of Taipa has never been developed since its concession was granted in 1997.
According to Lei, the size of the plot amounts to 150,000 square metres.
Lei asked whether the plot has been listed as an undeveloped plot, and whether the government is planning to repossess it.
Rosario replied that the government is preparing to declare the invalidity of the land concession for the plot before it can be repossessed by the government.
Rosario also said that it was very likely that the government would declare the invalidity before 2022 – when the plot’s land concession is set to expire.
