Tibetan Mastiffs, Filas Brasileiros, (Brazilian Mastiff), Dogos Argentinos, (Argentine Mastiffs), Tosas (Japanese Mastiffs) and Pit Bull Terriers and their cross-breeds have been banned by the government as part of the Animal Protection Law, according to an executive order published by the Official Gazette (BO) on Tuesday.
The order took effect on Wednesday.
The executive order is based on Article 13 of the Animal Protection Law that came into force in September.
According to the executive order, banned canines and other banned animals cannot be acquired, raised or imported in Macau.
Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) President José Fonseca Tavares said after a regular consultative committee meeting on Thursday that, according to his knowledge, among the banned canine breeds there was only one cross-breed of the Tibetan Mastiff in the city.
Banned dogs that had been acquired before the executive order took effect can be kept but have to be registered with the bureau and neutered within 60 days after coming-into-force of the order, according to Tavares.
