The Macau government announced Wednesday the city’s 30th novel coronavirus case, a 52-year-old male Australian traveller who visited San Francisco with his wife from February 27 to March 4.
According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, they transferred to London in the United Kingdom from March 4 to 15, then left on March 15. They took Virgin Atlantic, flight VS206 (seat 66A) from London Heathrow Airport and arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport on March 16. They entered Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge on the same day.
From March 16 to 20, they stayed at Pousada de Coloane Boutique Hotel and spent their time mostly in the hotel and at the beach nearby. On March 19, the couple took the 26A bus to the Venetian Macau but he did not enter the casino as he had not brought his passport. On the evening of the same day, they went to La Gondola for dinner.
They planned to go to Hong Kong on March 20 for a flight back to Australia but were refused entry and returned to Macau. At that time, he was arranged to Grand Coloane Resort for medical observation according to the Health Bureau quarantine measures.
A nasopharyngeal swab test was performed by medical staff on Tuesday (March 24) and results came back Wednesday, showing that he was positive for the novel coronavirus.
The statement described his condition as “normal” and that he has been admitted to the isolation ward of the Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre. His wife is listed as a close contact and will be arranged to stay at a public health clinical centre for medical observation.
