The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement on Thursday that it will launch two intangible cultural heritage workshops to celebrate the nation’s Cultural and Natural Heritage Day.
The celebration will last from tomorrow until June 21, the statement said.
The workshops aim to promote intangible cultural heritage and a healthy lifestyle online, the statement noted.
According to the statement, the workshops will consist of the Demonstration Workshop on Making Cheongsams and Chinese Wedding Dresses (Kwan Kwa), and a Beijing Opera Mask Creative Workshop, which will introduce the “unique charm” of the nation’s intangible cultural heritage to the public.
The bureau will share information about intangible cultural heritage and the concept of a healthy lifestyle with the public online, aiming to give the public a deeper understanding of the relationship between intangible cultural heritage and their daily lives and raising the public’s awareness of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, the statement noted.
This year, the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day is themed “Intangible Cultural Heritage Legacy, Healthy Lifestyle”, the statement underlined.
The “Demonstration Workshop on Making Cheongsams and Chinese Wedding Dresses (Kwan Kwa)” will be held on June 20 and 21, at the Yuqing Mansion of the Mandarin’s House, with two sessions per day at 11 a.m. and 2.30 p.m., the statement noted.
According to the statement, at the workshop a cheongsam master and an owner of a Chinese wedding dress shop will elaborate on the making of cheongsams and “kwan kwa” costumes respectively, and the participants may learn more about the essence of sewing techniques relating to these garments, and they will also be able to try on the dresses.
Each session of the workshop is limited to 15 participants. For enquiries call 8590 4321 during office hours, the statement said.
According to the statement, in the Beijing Opera Mask Creative Workshop, a veteran instructor will teach the participants to use “vivid colours, motifs and adornments” to create their own opera masks with their “boundless imagination”.
The workshop will be held on June 20 from 1.30 and 4 p.m. at the Art Square of the Handover Gifts Museum of Macau, the statement said.
Each session of the workshop is limited to 16 participants. For enquiries call 8988 4000 during office hours, the statement underlined.
For both workshops, an online registration can be made through the bureau’s Activity Registration System at www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event from today. Admission is free of charge.
The statement did not elaborate on what healthy lifestyle online means.
If the number of registrations exceeds the maximum number of participants, participants will be selected by a lucky draw, the statement said.
The bureau will apply appropriate measures according to the anti-epidemic guidelines of the Health Bureau (SSM), the statement said.
The Cultural and Natural Heritage Day was formerly called Cultural Heritage Day, the statement underlined.
In accordance with a regulation of the State Council, the Cultural Heritage Day has been celebrated annually on the second Saturday of June since 2006, the statement noted.
From 2017, in order to strengthen public awareness of the importance of heritage preservation in general (including culture and natural heritage), Cultural Heritage Day was renamed Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, the statement said.
