The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Tuesday that it has launched a project to improve the waterfront pedestrian areas of Sai Van Lake in phases.
Literally translated from Chinese into English, Sai Van means West Bay.
According to the statement, the project’s first phase covers the waterfront pavements along Rua do Lago Sai Van – a street behind the Court of First Instance (TJB) building – and Avenida Doutor Stanley Ho, while the second phase covers the waterfront pavements along Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van. The whole project will last 140 days.
“The waterfront of Sai Van Lake is one of the places residents take leisurely walks and engage in recreational activities. However, the facilities there have been worn out after years of use. The pavement surface is uneven as paving slabs have become loose. Therefore, the Municipal Affairs Bureau is carrying out the project so as to improve the walking and recreational areas along Sai Van Lake,” the statement said.
The statement underlined that the project doesn’t include an initially-planned wooden boardwalk project along Avenida da República, as the bureau has halted it after listening to public opinion.
The statement also said that after the completion of the project, the bureau will launch another project to improve the waterfront pedestrian areas near Macau Tower and the Gate of Understanding.
