Macau’s air quality slightly worsened last year: fewer days when air quality was “good” were recorded at a number of monitoring stations across the city last year, while more days when air quality was “moderate” were recorded, compared to 2015, according to official data released by the Statistics and Census Service Bureau (DSEC) on Tuesday.
According to the Environmental Statistics 2016 data, for the “roadside” monitoring station in Rua do Campo as well as the monitoring station in the “high density residential area” in the northern district, the number of “good” air quality days decreased last year, while the number of “moderate” air quality days increased, compared to 2015.
For these two monitoring stations, the number of “poor” air quality days declined last year, according to the data.
For another two monitoring stations, namely the monitoring station in Taipa Central Park and the one on Big Taipa Hill, both the number of “good” air quality days and the number of “moderate” air quality days increased last year, compared to 2015, according to the data. The number of “poor” air quality days decreased at these two monitoring station, the data shows.
For the number of days in which the amount of suspended particulates PM 2.5 exceeded the standard values, there were seven days recorded by the Concordia Industrial Park’s monitoring station last year, the highest compared to the other four monitoring stations in the city, according to the data.
Meanwhile, the Environmental Statistics 2016 data also shows that Macau’s population density increased to 21,400 people per square kilometre last year, from 21,100 people per square kilometre in 2015.
Macau has the world’s highest population density, according to Guinness World Records.
