Thirty guests had to be evacuated from The Londoner Hotel in Cotai yesterday after the top of a lift caught fire.

The Fire Services Bureau said it was alerted by hotel security guards at around 12:30 pm. However, technicians from the company that provides the hotel with lift repair and maintenance services had put out the blaze with fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived at the scene.

After firefighters arrived at the hotel, they saw that smoke had spread through the 29th floor. An examination of the lift found that its top had been burnt. Technicians from the lift company believe that the fire was caused by a short circuit, The Macau Post Daily reported.
