A 62-year-old female Macao resident, who works part-time as a janitor at Tong Nam Kindergarten, has tested positive for Covid-19, becoming the eighth member of the “Cabbie Cluster” that began on Monday.
The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre said the case has been classified as “related to an imported case”. The woman, who is also a part-time kitchen worker at Tong Kei restaurant on Estrada do Repouso, lives with her husband in Edificio Vang Son on Calçada das Verdades 12-12A.
According to the Centre, the woman undertook a rapid antigen test (RAT) this morning and her test result was positive. She was taken to the Conde San Januário Hospital, where her nucleic acid test (NAT) result returned positive.
The woman has no recent travel history outside Macao but has a common track with the 74-year-old cabbie, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday and has dined in the same restaurant, which is located near Kiang Wu Hospital.
According to the Centre, the woman worked from 7 to 9 am on 27 and 28 November. The taxi driver reportedly always ate breakfast at the restaurant.
The woman has meanwhile developed some symptoms, including a headache and hoarseness, and has been transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for isolation and treatment. Her husband’s NAT result this morning was negative.
The Centre also said the woman underwent a NAT at the Templo Hong Kung Leisure Area testing centre yesterday and her NAT result was negative.
The woman worked at the kindergarten from 10 am to 2 pm on 28 November, when she sliced fruit and distributed lunches in the school’s cafeteria. She also briefly entered K3B, K3C and K3D classes to place drinking water, and K1A classes to tidy up bedding. She was wearing a mask while working.
All staff and students from the kindergarten must now undergo quarantine.
For those who ate lunch in the cafeteria on 28 November, the Macao Health Code will be converted to yellow, and they must undergo a NAT today and on 1, 2 and 4 December, and may not attend school until the measures are completed.
For those who were at the kindergarten on 28 November but did not go to the cafeteria for lunch, the Macao health code stays green, but they must undergo NATs today, and on 2 and 4 December. They can continue to go to class before the measures are completed.
