The temperature next Wednesday could fall as low as 7°C, according to the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (commonly called by its Portuguese initials SMG).

According to the bureau’s current forecast, the temperature over the next seven days is expected to peak on Saturday, with a high of 25°C before dropping by a rate of 4°C to 5°C in the days that follow. By next Wednesday, the temperature will be between 7°C to 11°C.

The SMG pointed out that a strong northeasterly wind will gradually affect the region over the weekend and bring chilly weather to Macao. Skies are expected to be mostly cloudy, with occasional drizzle.

The mercury for neighbouring Greater Bay Area cities is also predicted to drop significantly next week, with the Hong Kong Observatory forecasting temperatures between 5°C and 7°C for some rural areas.

Meanwhile, Guangzhou can expect temperatures to plummet to a low of 6°C.
Despite the imminent cold weather, the underlying regional and global trends are for rising temperatures. Last year was Macao’s third hottest on record, with the average temperature across 2023 hitting 23.3℃ – and a record-breaking high of 35.2℃ being recorded in October.
