Macao’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has confirmed the city’s 64th Covid-19 case, a 31-year-old local resident holding Turkish nationality.
According to the centre, the man arrived in Macao via Singapore from Turkey last Saturday. He tested positive for the novel coronavirus last night.
The centre pointed out that the resident had tested negative for the disease upon arrival and that the result of his antibody test was normal for someone who had been vaccinated against Covid-19.
After arriving in Macao the man immediately started regular quarantine at a local hotel where he tested positive for Covid-19 last night. The centre pointed out that the patient’s high cycle threshold value indicated that the case is a new infection.
The patient has been transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre for isolation and treatment.
The case has been classified as imported.
All of Macao’s 64 Covid-19 cases since 22 January last year have been classified by the Health Bureau as imported or linked to imported cases, including a four-member Delta variant family cluster last month. No Covid-19 fatalities have been reported in Macao.
Since March last year foreign nationals without the right of abode in Macao have been barred from entering Macao. Exceptions from the ban have been rarely granted.
