A man and two women were caught on Wednesday during a drug deal involving 15.96 grammes of crystal methamphetamine (also commonly known as ice) with an estimated street value of about MOP 53,000, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said at a special press conference on Thursday.
The three suspects are a 46-year-old unemployed man surnamed Kan, a 40-year-old chauffeuse surnamed Lo, and a 34-year-old unemployed woman surnamed Leong.
According to Lei, the Judiciary Police received a tip-off a week ago that Kan was regularly selling drugs to locals in the Patane district. PJ officers put Kan under surveillance near his home on Wednesday afternoon. The officers saw that Kan left home at about 7 pm and followed Kan who soon met Lo and Leong. Realising that the trio were about to close a drug deal the officers arrested them on the spot, seizing 0.38 grammes of ice from Lo.
According to Lei, PJ officers then searched Kan’s home and confiscated 15.58 grammes of ice as well as packaging items and drug-taking paraphernalia. Under questioning, Lo admitted to having asked Kan to sell 0.38 grammes of ice to her. She went together with Leong to pick up the drugs and paid him MOP 1,000. Kan also admitted to selling drugs for about two months. However, he refused to reveal how he obtained the drugs.
Lei said the Judiciary Police seized a total of about 15.96 grammes of ice worth about MOP 53,000, adding that the trio tested positive for ice.
The trio were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Thursday. Kan faces charges of drug trafficking and illegal possession of drug-taking paraphernalia, Lo faces charges of drug trafficking and drug abuse, while Leong faces a drug-abuse charge, according to Lei.
