A mainland overstayer was arrested last Thursday for buying and selling forged arrival cards, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference on Tuesday.
The 37-year-old suspect, surnamed Chen, told the police that he’s a waiter.
According to Lam, PSP officers arrested Chen after they saw him acting suspiciously at a taxi rank in Rua da Ponte Negra. Under questioning, Chen showed a forged arrival card and admitted that he’s an overstayer.
Lam said Chen entered Macau via the Barrier Gate on March 15. He gambled away a large amount of money in local casinos and later overstayed in Macau in an attempt to find a job.
Lam said Chen met a man he didn’t know on April 2 at the Galaxy casino in Cotai. He paid the man HK$1,500 (US$194) for forged arrival cards for himself and a married couple. Afterward, Chen resold two of the arrival cards for 1,600 patacas to the couple.
According to Lam, the couple are overstayers. The 27-year-old wife, surnamed Ma, told the police that she is unemployed. Her 27-year-old husband, surnamed Liu, said that he is a clerk. They were arrested on Saturday at StarWorld Hotel.
The trio were transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) on Saturday, each facing a charge of overstaying while Chen also faces document forgery charges.
