A four-day Experience Macao roadshow organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) kicks off in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta on Thursday.

In a statement, MGTO described the upcoming roadshow as its “first mega promotional event in Indonesia.” It will be preceded by a seminar on Macao’s meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) offerings, scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

Experience Macao aims to “energise Indonesians’ intention to visit Macao” through painting “a vibrant picture of Macao’s diverse offerings,” according to MGTO. Southeast Asian countries are an increasingly important source of tourists for the SAR and, according to the latest figures, Indonesia is Macao’s sixth largest international visitor market.

Representatives from Air Macau and all six integrated resorts will man booths at the roadshow, while nine local travel agencies will be on the ground, offering various tourism-related products.

MGTO has been ramping up its efforts to attract Indonesian travellers to the SAR over the past year. Last July, it hosted a delegation of Indonesian travel experts for a familiarisation visit. In September, MGTO organised a Macao Pavilion at one of the country’s major travel fairs. Direct flights between Macao and Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, launched last November.

The office has also been running Islamic Culture in Tourism Workshops to prepare the local tourism industry for an increase in visitors from Muslim-majority countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.

This year, the government aims to attract four million international tourists to the city – more than twice the total recorded in 2023. Roadshows in target markets, including Japan, Seoul and Thailand, are one of the ways it’s working to achieve this ambitious target.

This week’s Experience Macao roadshow is being held from 9 to 12 May at Jakarta’s Central Park Mall.
