Visitor arrivals in July are up 14.5 percent

More than 3.4 million people visited Macao in July, bringing the year-to-date total close to 22.7 million, with the majority being same-day visitors
  • As usual, the bulk of visitors travelled from the mainland – increasing by 17.4 percent year-on-year, while international visitors rose by a more modest 2.8 percent

Macao welcomed 3,458,366 visitors in July, a year-on-year jump of 14.5 percent, according to official figures. July was the second biggest month for visitor arrivals to date in 2025, after January.

Same-day visitors totalled 1,980,732, a year-on-year rise of 24.1 percent, while those staying at least one night (1,477,634) experienced a more modest increase of 3.7 percent.

Compared with July 2024, the average length of stay held steady at 1.2 days. The duration of stay for same-day visitors (0.2 day) went down by 0.1 days, while overnight visitors’ average length of stay (2.4 days) remained unchanged.

Analysed by source, visitors from mainland China increased by 17.4 percent year-on-year to 2,563,212. The number of mainland Chinese travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (1,362,168) grew by 23.6 percent. Visitors from the nine mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area (1,225,642) went up by 23 percent overall, driven as usual by arrivals from neighbouring Zhuhai (up by 56.8 percent).

Visitors from Hong Kong (625,343) and Taiwan (78,828) went up by 6.2 percent and 21.4 percent year-on-year respectively.

International visitors in July rose by 2.8 percent year-on-year, totalling 177,774. Among Southeast Asian markets, visitors from Thailand (12,352) clocked the biggest growth rate at 48.9 percent, while visitors from the Philippines (37,912) and Malaysia (8,102) decreased by 11.8 percent and 9.6 percent year-on-year. Indonesian visitors (14,884) grew by 9.7 percent.

Visitors from India (6,167) dropped by 12.2 percent compared to July 2024, while those from South Korea (32,288) and Japan (8,743) were down by 1.6 percent and 0.4 percent respectively. Visitors from the US (15,796) in July climbed 6.2 percent year-on-year.

Analysed by checkpoint, the number of visitor arrivals by land (2,881,243 or 83.3 percent of total) grew by 19.5 percent year-on-year in July. Meanwhile, visitor arrivals by sea (323,296 or  9.3 percent of the total) decreased by 2.6 percent year-on-year, and those by air (253,827 or 7.3 percent of the total) dropped by 8.6 percent.

In the first seven months of 2025, a total of 22,676,906 visitor arrivals were recorded, up by 14.9 percent year-on-year. Same-day visitors (13,163,645) and overnight visitors (9,513,261) grew by 25.5 percent and 2.8 percent respectively.
