Around 20 convention and exhibition events will be held in the first quarter of 2024, attracting approximately 33,000 delegates to the city, according to figures from the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (known by its Portuguese initials IPIM).

Among the marquee events are the inaugural Greater Bay Area International Sports Business Summit, scheduled for 23 and 24 February.

Boldface names appearing at the summit include basketball legend Dwayne Wade, Chinese Olympian and sportswear mogul Li Ning, and Alibaba chairman Joseph Tsai.

Global trade show organisers will have their own get-together in March, when Macao stages the 2024 UFI Asia Pacific Conference and delegates convene to discuss hot topics in the meetings and incentives (MICE) industry.

The 2024 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition, hosted by the Macao government, will also kick off in March. The annual event seeks to expand the global environmental protection market and establish an international exchange platform that supports the environmental protection industry.

Macao is aiming to host 1,500 MICE events in 2024 – around 50 percent more than the total for 2023.
