More than 14,000 delegates are expected to flock to MICE events and conferences in Macao over the next month, according to the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).

In a statement cited by the Macau Post Daily, the institute said that, with the Covid-19 pandemic receding, the territory was once again able to offer “cultural experience activities,” tourist attractions and retail experiences to appeal to conference delegates.

It quoted an unnamed conference organiser, who said that reasons for choosing Macao included international-standard facilities, efficient service staff and integrated hotels and resorts, which offer meeting venues, accommodation and recreational activities on one site.

Because of the pandemic, Macao hosted a few meetings last year, most of them virtual. This year, officials are hoping for up to 1,000 in-person conferences.

The IPIM said it plans to work with the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, relevant industries and other stakeholders to attract international and regional events to Macao.
