The MGTO has doubled down on its bid to attract Malaysian tourists

A four-day roadshow promoting Macao as a holiday destination to Malaysians wound up yesterday in the country’s capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Its purpose was to “energise Malaysians’ intent to visit Macao and tap the potential of Southeast Asia as an international market,” according to a statement by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

Malaysia is Macao’s ninth biggest inbound tourism market, but average daily visitor arrivals are just one-third of what they were pre-pandemic, the statement said.

The MGTO’s roadshow featured a chef from Macao, who prepared some of the SAR’s signature dishes; Portuguese-style folk dancing and music; and booths displaying tourism offerings from each of Macao’s six integrated resorts. 

Discounted air tickets and hotel bookings were on offer, along with prizes for prospective visitors.

Before the roadshow, the MGTO worked with Malaysian travel influencers including the YouTube duo Chang Yong and Shu Sen, who filmed a travelogue in Macao for their million-plus followers.
