Macau’s composite consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.59 per cent on September, a further slowdown from the 1.65 per cent growth in the previous month, the Statistic and Census Bureau said in a statement.
The bureau attributed the increment to higher rentals for parking spaces, the higher cost of eating out, as well as increases in property management fees, higher tuition fees in the new academic year and rising motor car prices.
Among the various sections of goods and services, the price index of food and non-alcoholic beverages that accounted for the largest share of household expenditure showed a continued slow-down in growth, rising 2.04 per cent year-on-year, the statement pointed out.
While the price index of clothing and footwear fell 2.94 per cent, the index of housing and fuels dropped 0.81 per cent.
For the 12 months ended last month, the average composite CPI rose 2.98 per cent from the previous period.
The average composite CPI for the first nine months of this year increased 2.69 per cent year-on-year.
