Macao registers 89.3 percent hotel occupancy for October

Macao’s hotel occupancy rate reached 89.3 percent in October, up 0.9 percentage points year-on-year, according to new figures from the Statistics and Census Service (known by its Portuguese initials DSEC). The figure is on par with average rates for the first three quarters of 2025.

The city’s accommodation providers hosted 1.21 million guests during the month, a 3 percent increase compared to October 2024 – even as inbound package tour arrivals fell sharply.

Five-star hotels led the sector, recording a 93.5 percent occupancy rate, up 1.8 percentage points year-on-year. Four-star establishments rose to 83.7 percent (+1 percentage point), while three-star properties dropped to 82.4 percent, a decline of 2.6 percentage points.

Mainland Chinese visitors remained the largest segment, comprising 885,000 hotel guests in October, up 1.6 percent year-on-year. International guests grew more strongly, rising 20.8 percent to 118,000. South Koreans accounted for 34,000 visitors (+12 percent), followed by Thailand (9,000, +67.3 percent), Japan (8,000, +31.2 percent) and India (8,000, +37 percent).

Guests from Hong Kong decreased slightly to 140,000, down 1.9 percent. The average length of stay edged up to 1.7 nights, increasing by 0.1 nights from a year earlier.

Macao had 147 operating hotel establishments at the end of October – one more than a year earlier – offering a combined 45,000 rooms. For the first ten months of 2025, the city recorded an average occupancy rate of 89.3 percent (+3.6 percentage points), 12.12 million hotel guests (+0.4 percent) and 1.54 million package tour arrivals (–9.5 percent).
