The Macau government recorded a fiscal surplus of 25.28 billion patacas in the first five months of this year, down by 54.9 percent year-on-year, according to the latest figures released by the Financial Services Bureau (DSF).
Total public revenue in the five months stood at 46.42 billion patacas, down 33.8 percent year-on-year.
This noticeable drop in public revenue has been affected by the sluggish gaming industry since last June. Casino revenue suffered an average decline of 24.4 percent for the 12th consecutive month in May. The government’s income from direct gaming taxes dropped 35.4 percent in the January-May period.
Meanwhile, total public expenditure in the first five months increased 49.4 percent year-on-year to 21.14 billion patacas, among which capital expenditure leaped 82.9 percent.
