The Macao government has launched a large-scale community consumption campaign in commemoration of the National Games of China, which will be held in the SAR in November. Organised in collaboration with the Macau Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the event aims to boost market confidence and revitalise the local retail sector, reports Macao Daily.
The campaign takes the form of multiple promotions lasting 13 weeks from September to November. Residents with digital wallets can enter lotteries on making their first purchase of over 50 patacas at participating stores each day, for a maximum of three times per week from Monday to Friday.
Rewards include coupons for up to 200 patacas and can be redeemed within the same week. Payments for utility, fuel and telecommunications bills are excluded from the campaign.

During weekends, residents who spend over 50 patacas at participating stores will be entered into a different lottery, where three winners will each be rewarded with 8,000 patacas. Senior citizens and residents with disabilities can also redeem an instant discount card worth 500 patacas, usable during the promotional period.
The budget for the campaign is 485 million patacas, a 60 percent increase from previous similar campaigns, according to Macao Economic Association president Liu Benli. Liu expects the promotions to generate up to 2 billion patacas (US$249 million) in spending.
Owners of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in Macao interviewed by TDM said that previous campaigns have led to a 10 to 20 percent increase in revenue, and they hope the current campaign will do the same. In recent years, SMEs have been impacted by the rising trend of local residents preferring to do their shopping in mainland China.
