The 2012 Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold, officially sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), will be held at the Macau Forum from November 27 to December 2.
Kumpoo is a Japanese manufacturer of badminton equipment.
It is the seventh year that the Badminton Federation of Macau has hosted the event, one of the BWF Grand Prix Gold tournaments, which has attracted entries from 19 countries and regions with a total of 320 players competing in five individual competitions (men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles) for a total prize money of one million patacas.
The tournament is headlined by some of the world’s top shuttlers, including 2012 London Olympic medallists such as world number-one men’s single player Lee Chong Wai of Malaysia and doubles’ players Zhang Nan and Man Jin of China. Former Olympics Champion Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat will also compete for the last time in Macau.
There will be 12 Macau players participating in the tournament, The Macau Post Daily reported.
The tournament is organised by the Badminton Federation of Macau and sponsored by the Macau Sport Development Board (IDM) and Kumpoo. (macaunews)
