The Macao Government has organised a host of activities across the city for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, which lasts between 10 and 24 February.

The annual Golden Dragon and Lion Parade will usher in the first day of the Year of the Dragon in Senado Square, with colourfully dressed performers.

Float parades are scheduled to take place in the Sai Van Lake area on 12 February and the northern suburbs on 17 February – the third and eighth day of the lunar calendar respectively. The events will each feature 15 floats, with hundreds of performers from Macao, Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and other areas.

Residents can meanwhile enjoy fireworks displays near Macau Tower on 12, 16 and 24 February, or discharge their own festive fireworks and traditional firecrackers at government-approved locations on the peninsula and in Taipa.

Those who overindulge in Lunar New Year treats can burn off calories at the Macao Sports Bureau’s series of fitness events, set to take place on 12 February. Among them is a 20-kilometre bike ride, for which applications are now open. A Harley Davidson motorcycle parade and exhibition is also scheduled to take place at the Macao Science Centre on 18 February.

Residents can expect to see the return of the annual Chinese New Year Market in Tap Seac as well, with traditional gifts, decorations, flowers and food available for purchase.
