Just in time for the Lunar New Year, Galaxy Macau and the Macau Artist Society have debuted a new exhibition, GENESIS: Contemporary Installation Art Journey, featuring captivating works by three Macao artists: Ng Man Wai, Sou Leng Fong, and Cheong Hoi I.

On display at GalaxyArt until 6 May, the exhibition takes inspiration from the Greek term genesis, meaning “creation, beginning, origin.” With this theme in mind, the three artists have crafted novel installations that “celebrate new beginnings by inspiring visitors with positive energy and fresh possibilities for the season,” according to the organisers.

Fluttering overhead, Sou’s organic Blooming installation creates the impression of a flourishing marine garden with its aqua hues. Meanwhile, Ng’s Doppelgänger: The Apple enables viewers to peer inside a reproduction of a sliced-up apple and explore this symbol of health from new perspectives. Shaped like a bridge, Cheong’s iridescent Pleased as Fruit Punch invites visitors to wander inside and admire its kaleidoscopic colours.

Genesis offered the artists an opportunity to create their most ambitious works to date, said curator Lam Tsz Kwan. “All large-scale installations have been purposely created by the artists for this exhibition and are the result of three months of hard work,” she added. Due to the installations’ size, they first conceptualised their ideas as smaller models, then produced full-scale works in mainland China.

As part of the experience, visitors aged 16 and older are invited to join 90-minute art workshops led by the artists.
