The British linguist Ken Hyland has visited Macao to deliver a well-attended lecture on the subject of innovative English teaching.

Hyland was ranked as the world’s most influential scholar in the field of linguistics and language studies by Stanford University’s Elsevier analysis of the Scopus database consecutively in 2022 and 2023.

His lecture is understood to have taken place earlier this week at the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU).

The lecture was titled “Innovative English Teaching: Arguments for Specific Courses.” It attracted 400 participants from universities across the Greater Bay Area, with some joining online.

Hyland is a professor at the UK’s University of East Anglia and an honorary professor at both the University of Hong Kong and the UK’s University of Warwick.
