The Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) project in Hengqin is taking shape, with works for all basement structures expected to be completed by the middle of the year, Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) has announced.

Pile foundation works for the MNN project were completed at the end of last year.

The construction work for the project’s kindergarten and primary school buildings began in March, along with its health station, seniors’ service centre, and the family service centre. The residential towers and auxiliary facilities’ construction are expected to be completed and inspected by mid-2023.

The MNN livelihood project broke ground in 2021 and will have around “4,000 residential units available for sale and over 200 housing units for talented professionals”.

The neighbourhood will have amenities and facilities such as a kindergarten (12 classes) and a primary school (18 classes), a health station, and an underground car park, with Macao standard public services provided. It will also have more than 5,000 square metres of commercial space.

A total of 3,103 bored piles were installed on the site last year, and around 20 tower cranes are currently at work. This year, the construction of the “basement, main buildings, residential units fitting-out, roads, and greening facilities” will take place, with the main structures expected to reach “the topping-out stage” before the end of the year.

The project extends over 190,000 square metres, with a floor area of about 620,000 square metres; it will have 27 residential towers connected by “wind and rain corridors to facilitate pedestrian access”.

“Southern European features” will be integrated into some of the designs in the neighbourhood’s open communal spaces, street lamps and railings “to create an ideal living and working environment similar to Macao”.

The neighbourhood’s public services, such as education and social and medical services, “will be docked with their Macao counterparts” upon completion, The Macau Post Daily reported.
