The Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) attended the “Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo 2016″ (AIME 2016) which ended Wednesday in Melbourne, Australia, in order to attract more conventions and exhibitions from the Asia-Pacific region to Macau.

The mission organised by IPIM, which since January has been responsible for coordination and external promotion of the Macau Convention and Exhibition industry, was headed by the executive member of the institute Va Kuan Lau institute and included officials from Macau’s tourism, hotel, travel agency and operators and event managers.

Under the slogan “Macau – Capital of major events”, IPIM set up a pavilion at AIME 2016 to showcase Macau’s potential as a centre for exhibitions, conventions and meetings, thus attracting international events.

IPIM announced, meanwhile, that this year Macau will host the World Congress of Chinese Life Insurance Professionals and the Annual Conference of the International Dragon Prize (IDA), with the expected participation of 6,000 delegates, the 9th edition of “SIGGRAPH Asia”, which hopes to attract more than 7,000 participants, “Jeunesse Greater China Meeting” and “NU Skin Academy 2016,” with more than 7,000 participants.

In order to diversify Macau’s economy, the government launched a series of actions to make the Macau Special Administrative Region into a major centre for conventions, exhibitions and events in the Pearl River Delta thus attracting more investment, business and leisure travellers.

Information from the Macau Statistics and Census Bureau showed that between January and September 2015 there were 637 meetings, conferences and exhibitions (77 more than in the same period of 2014) which involved 1.6 million participants and visitors, or 8.7 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.
