A museum in commemoration of national composer Xian Xinghai, situated next to government-owned broadcaster TDM in Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira, opened to the public on Sunday.

The government held an opening ceremony for the museum on Saturday, which was attended by Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, his predecessor Edmund Ho Hau Wah, now a vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau Director Fu Ziying, Foreign Ministry Commissioner Shen Beili, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng, and Xian’s daughter Xian Nina.

According to the Macau Post Daily, during the ceremony, Tam handed Xian Nina a letter of appreciation for her support and assistance in the planning and construction of the museum.

The museum, a Portuguese-style townhouse, is located near the junction of Avenida do Coronel Mesquita and Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira.

The museum opened on Sunday is the first section of the Xian Xinghai museum. The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) will later convert a house next to it into the museum’s second section.

The two green houses, built in the 1950s, are owned by the Post and Telecommunications Bureau, which has rented them to the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) for converting them into the Xian Xinghai Museum.
