The Xian Xinghai Memorial Museum in Macao has been added to the list of Chinese monuments and sites dedicated to the victory against Japan in World War II.
The updated list was released by the Chinese State Council as part of the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.
This is the first time a Macao monument or museum has been included in the list.
Composer Xian Xinghai was born in Macao in 1905 and is the author of one of the most well-known patriotic songs in all of China: “Yellow River Cantata”.
It was composed in early 1939, in Yan an, during the Sino-Japanese War, and was first presented to the public in April of the same year.
The cantata spread throughout China, becoming a patriotic anthem against the Japanese invaders.
Xian Xinghai died in 1945 in Moscow at the age of 40.
The museum is located at Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira and opened to the public in November 2019.
The first list of monuments related to China’s victory against Japan was released in 2014 and included 180 locations across the country. An additional 80 monuments and sites were included in the list this year.
