The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) and Wynn Macau jointly launched “Macanese Cuisine Culinary Heritage Masterclasses” at Wynn Macau’s banquet hall today.
From this month to April 2023, a group of renowned Macanese cuisine chefs will provide a culinary exchange and learning opportunity for over 100 local students and catering workers to cultivate their culinary talents, MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong said during the launch event.
Six of the seven sessions of the courses will be held at the DSEDJ’s Vocational and Technical Education Activities Centre, according to the bureau’s Secondary Education Division Chief Leong I On, who said the bureau will continue to promote the development of vocational and technical education in order to cultivate local catering and culinary talents.
Leong pointed out that the centre was set up to develop students’ interests and ability in vocational skills, adding that around 200 cooking classes have been held for local secondary school students at the centre’s International Cooking Area since 2020, attracting some 5,000 people to participate in the classes.
The Macanese cuisine was included in Macao’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2012 and in the list of representative items of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage last year, The Macau Post Daily reported.
