With the aim of celebrating the 15th anniversary of the inscription of the “Historic Centre of Macao” on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) will hold a series of exploration activities at the city’s World Heritage sites, according to a statement by the bureau on Friday.

The registrations for the most sought-after activities – “World Heritage Open Day” and the “Heritage City Tours – Guided Tours and Illustration Workshop”– were quickly booked up after the activities were launched, the statement pointed out.

Considering the public’s overwhelming response, additional sessions will be offered for the activities “Heritage City Tours – Guided Tours and Illustration Workshop” and all are welcome to participate, the statement said.

The statement did not state in which languages the tours will be conducted.

The “Heritage City Tours – Guided Tours and Illustration Workshop” feature various routes. The tours will be led by professional guides who will take participants to explore different World Heritage buildings and tell the story of each building, the statement said.

The activity also features illustrators who will teach the technique of creating a travel diary so that participants can capture the main moments of their tours and record everything in their unique travel diaries, the statement added. Participants are urged to arrive on time. Aiming to “give the public more opportunities to enjoy the beauty of Macao’s World Heritage”, the bureau has decided to offer additional sessions of the “Heritage City Tours” activity from 4 pm to 6 pm on 19 and 26 July and 1 and 2 August, with the 19 July session earmarked for families, the statement said.

Online registration for the additional sessions will be available at www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event until 11:59 pm on Thursday. If the number of registrations exceeds the maximum number of participants, participants will be selected at random; if there are still vacancies available after the registration period, participants may register on-site. Distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis, the statement noted.

To safeguard participants’ health, the bureau will implement measures in line with the anti-epidemic guidelines of the Health Bureau and all participants must follow the bureau’s anti-epidemic measures. Enquiries by phone: Ms Chong on 8590 4382 or Ms Wong on 8590 4329 during office hours. More information about the activities is available on the official website at www.icm.gov.mo/mhd15.

The Historic Centre of Macao was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 15 July 2005, when it became China’s 31st World Heritage site.
