Film buffs can look forward to two weeks’ of entertainment during the 6th Macao International Documentary Film Festival (MOIDF), which starts tomorrow at CGV Nova Mall Cinemas in Taipa.

Themed “Outsider”, the festival features 30 works, including Fire of Love, Flee and the masterpieces of Zhou Hao, the iconic contemporary Chinese documentary filmmaker.

The Macao Documentary Competition will be held during the festival to showcase the creativity of the new generation of local directors.

This year’s theme refers to people who live on the fringes of society with little hope of success, but who all possess ordinary, small yet genuine power.

The festival will begin with Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain, talking about the secrets of Michelin-starred restaurants and celebrity chef and author Bourdain, while this year’s Classic-Doc programme will be the Seoul Independent Film Showcase.

Zhou Hao, who is a past master at capturing different aspects of Chinese society and who won the Golden Horse Award for two consecutive years, will be invited to the Director-in-Focus programme. Apart from displaying his classic works, such as The Chinese Mayor and Cotton, he will also interact with the audience at a master class during the festival.

Portuguese Film Director Jorge Jácome’s Super Natural and The Territory will be part of the Taste of Portuguese programme.

Five works have been shortlisted in the 1st Macao Documentary Competition, covering a wide range of topics, including professional boxers, cross-boundary students and family relationships. The result of the competition will be announced at the opening ceremony tomorrow.

MOIDF has been organised by Comuna de Han-Ian and sponsored by the Cultural Development Fund, The Macau Post Daily reported.
