Raimundo do Rosário, the transport and public works chief, has expressed doubt that the Hengqin section of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) will be running before the end of 2024.
According to the Macau Post Daily, the official told the legislature yesterday that he was “a bit worried” about the completion date for the 2.2-kilometre-long section, which is due to connect Cotai and Hengqin Island.
Work on the section started in March 2021 and is officially scheduled for completion in November 2024.

However, Rosário said the LRT’s Seac Pai Van section would “quite certainly” come into service before the end of next year.
The 1.6-kilometre-long Seac Pai Van section is designed to connect the LRT’s Taipa section, from near the Islands Healthcare Complex in Cotai, to the Seac Pai Van estate in Coloane. Work on it started in September 2021 and is scheduled for completion next February.
Rosário meanwhile reassured lawmakers that testing was proceeding “smoothly” on the Taipa-Barra section, due to commence service at the end of this year.
