Macao’s restaurants collectively experienced an almost 11 percent increase in receipts in July, new figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) show.

The month-to-month rise was accompanied by a generally positive outlook, according to DSEC’s monthly Business Outlook Index, with 64 percent of restaurateurs expecting their receipts to remain stable going forward.

The index, which is based on the most recently available data, also found sales had increased for cosmetics and adults’ clothing, up by more than 15 percent and nearly 9 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, sales clocked by vehicle retailers were down by nearly 10 percent.

In April, takings at local eateries rose by just 1.9 percent, month-to-month. That was a negligible improvement in March, which saw an increase of 1.8 percent.

The Business Outlook Index is based on surveys of 229 restaurants and similar establishments, as well as 161 retailers.
