A recently proposed ferry service connecting Macao and Hengqin will involve the construction of a new ferry terminal at the latter’s financial district, TDM reports.

Guangdong’s provincial government has said that the terminal is expected to cost about two million yuan.

When complete, the new ferry service will transport passengers between a purpose-built jetty on the northwestern side of Hengqin and Macao’s Inner Harbour terminal.

A proposed high-speed railway station, meanwhile, looks set to be built in Hengqin’s city centre, according to TDM.

Last month, Hengqin’s urban planning authority put out a call for feasibility studies into linking Macao and mainland China’s high-speed rail network.

At the time, it was reported that the seven-to-nine-kilometre Hengqin-Macao railway would come with a 5.5 billion price yuan tag and integrate with Macao’s Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system.

The 2.2-kilometre Hengqin-Macao LRT connection is set to be completed in September 2024.
